I gave a presentation at the local chapter of the Colored Pencil Society of America on how artists apply for funded City of Portland programs to see if there's enough of us interested in working together on a proposal next year. There's one program in particular colored pencil could knock the socks off. Some were interested, some aren't ready yet and that's ok.
I was appointed to chair a new committee to find similar opportunities our folks could participate in... venues normally not considered or known about.

Another blast from the past - Thoughts of Home
This piece was my introduction to colored pencils. I had just received my commission as an officer in the military and I was deployed a long way from home training for Logistics Plans Management. I brought along art materials that were easy to take with me and required minimal support equipment. Up until then, I hadn't tried the medium. Colored pencil wasn't taught in school because it's not a classic media and therefore not considered for anything beyond rough draft studies. This drawing took me several months working on it in my spare time. Along the way I found I appreciated the meditation-like time in the drawing process and I was hooked. This piece has won three Best in Shows and was retired to my own personal collection.

Fall is in the Air
Mixed media: watercolor and colored pencil on Stillman&Birns hot press cotton paper. Location is along the Columbia River looking at the Washington side of the river. Mt. Adams in the background. The east wind has been blowing so hard for days that the leaves seen here are now gone. Welcome to winter, early this year.
Come see my work!
When watercolor and colored pencil meet, it's pure magic.
