Two carousel horses this time.

I worked on a pair of horses today from the Janzten Beach Carousel restoration project. I intended to work with a bolder than I usually use pen (02 Micron) but didn’t realize until I was nearly done that it was running out of ink and in the process it was creating very fine lines, finer than my usual 005 pen. Microns are nice because they are very portable and don’t leak or clog but when they run out of ink they aren’t refillable which is a problem when one is working on site and can’t trade it out with another pen. So I finished it with what I had thankful the expiring Micron pen kept drawing to the end but it turned out to be a much more delicate drawing than I had originally intended it to be.

Painting on Sauvies Island

I spent the morning yesterday out on Sauvies Island with the Portland Plein Air Painters. I had a ball painting the field and the cows in the distance. This is on my to do again list.

My template for this summer

I've been knocking around this idea for a couple of years.  It was a design originally intended to be a step level reward for the Kickstarter project I put together to fund my first coloring book on Timberline.  I decided against it because of the amount of design time required for this piece while also designing the coloring book.  Just so happens I was recently going through my old notes and came across it again.  I still like the concept and it can be used for a variety of other projects I'm currently working on:
