En Plein Air: 8/26/2014

I don't normally go out midday but I invited the local art guild to come out and have fun so I was out hours later than normal.  The difference is intensity of the colors and shadows.  And heat.  I'm really looking forward to cooler fall weather.

Sennelier's watercolors on 140# Arches cotton paper.
Work still in progress on this one.  I'm not quite happy with it yet.

En Plein Air in Cannon Beach, Oregon - 8/20/2014

(Click on the image to view larger)

I got up at zero dark thirty to drive out to the coast in search of "Tuffed Puffins", an endangered bird that nests on Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach. At sunrise it was slightly foggy, then really foggy, then sort of cleared up, then back to foggy again. I gave up when the incoming tide kept forcing to retreat further and further from the rock until I was too far away to see any detail.

14" x 7" on 140# Arches hot press cotton paper with Sennelier's watercolors. Reference: Cannon Beach, Oregon, Haystack Rock and the Pacific Ocean. I have to admit, my sense of humor got the best of me. I used water from the ocean to paint this so the watercolor has Pacific Ocean DNA embedded in it.

Available for purchase.
